Our last mission trip ended a little more than a month ago. Since then we have been in the city due to some problems, one of them being a lack of money for fuel to continue with the trip. During the first days, we were very restless, because we wanted to brave the waters and the jungles of the Amazon in search of someone to tell about Jesus. But the Lord had something else in store for us!
For safety reasons, we anchored the Luzeiro to a floating house on the banks of the river opposite the city. Here we have some neighbours that also live in floating houses, and among them is a 12 year old boy.
As the days passed, he always came to visit us to chat with us or to just give us some company. As we were talking to him, we found out that he didn’t know how to read well, and so I offered to give him extra lessons. At first he declined, but after insisting a bit, he ended up accepting the offer. On the day that we started the lessons, he told me that his sister and cousin also would like to participate, and a week after that, another sister of his also asked to join the classes.
As our class grew, Jemima and myself, we tried to prepare very dynamic lessons, so that the kids could learn better.
During the time that we spent with the children, besides teaching Portuguese and Mathematics, we always spoke to them about Jesus in using words and images that would understand about the love of Christ for us.
During these last weeks we remembered that God said: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
We were able to talk about the love of God through these classes on the Luizeiro XXX!
So we left for another mission trip again, having learned from the lesson God gave us: No matter the place, we should serve Him!
“Here am I, send me.”
